Gary Lee Hanson Obituary
Gary Hanson passed away on October 7th following a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Gary was born February 5, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Veryle and Virgil Hanson. He grew up in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and graduated from Morehead State College. Later he received his Master's degree from the University of Minnesota.
Gary taught English and history for 37 years at junior and senior high schools in Mounds View, Minnesota; Bozeman, Montana; Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota; and Shafter, California. In 1996, he was recognized by Who's Who Among America's Teachers. He retired from teaching in 2002. Gary was proud that his immediate family, Jade, Lisa, Sandi, and Jill, all became dedicated, caring, and successful teachers.
Because of his quiet personality, many people were not aware of his musical ability as a piano and trombone player. In addition, he loved playing tennis and helped to coach his girls' teams over the years. An avid sports fan, he was always eager to discuss football, basketball, and baseball with his grandsons.
Survivors include his wife, Jade; daughters, Lisa Bowen, Sandi Hanson and husband Bill Lampe, Jill Baker and husband Matt. Other survivors include granddaughters, Kayla Bowen, Kylie Baker, and Sienna Lampe; and grandsons, Roman and Kieran Baker and Conner Lampe. He is also survived by niece, Laura Bluhm of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Joanne Bluhm and Ilomae Hanson.
