Gary passed away peacefully on July 3, 2016 due to complications from pneumonia and diabetes. Gary was born on August 22, 1944, the son of an Italian immigrant farmer and Italian wife. He grew up in Buttonwillow, graduated from Shafter High School, and eventually took over the family farm. There, he raised a family with his wife, Mary Jo. They enjoyed many happy times together and raised two children. His proudest moments were when he was able to watch each of his children graduate from college. In addition to farming, his other loves throughout life were coaching baseball, being a reserve deputy sheriff, barbecuing for friends, and attending Italian Heritage functions. Later in life, he found his second soul-mate, Ramona Bush of Bakersfield. Together, they traveled the country visiting her family and taking in the sights. Gary was full of joy and made a friend with everyone he met. If you can still remember his loud, boisterous laughter then you too were touched by his presence.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Aladino and Jennie Riccomini. He is survived by his son, Michael Riccomini and wife, Lara and also a daughter, Catherine Riccomini. Michael and Lara gave him his only grandchild, Anthony, whom he loved very much. He is also survived by his older sister, Eleanor, and husband, Arthur, Ghilarducci. All currently live in the Bakersfield area.
A graveside service will be held at 9:00 AM, Tuesday, July 12 at Historic Union Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Romanini, Richard Romanini, Albert Ghilarducci, John Blair, Patrick Peterson, and David Bush. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Italian Heritage Dante Association Scholarship Fund.
