Gene Hockett Obituary

Genie was born in Taft, California to Leroy & Alice Yeates. As a small child she was moved to Wasco, California where she attended school from kindergarten through high school. She was a song leader and a majorette in high school. She graduated in the class of 1953. She remained connected with that class though life and was instrumental in arranging class reunions. In 1955 she married her high school sweet heart, Charlie Marks. They had two children Tom Marks and Leslie Marks. They lived for a short time in Redwood City, California before settling in Bakersfield. She lost her husband in 1978. She worked as a file clerk for Tenneco Oil Co. for several years before retiring in 1992. She remained single until marrying Bob Hockett in 1988 She was a very active person and enjoyed bike riding and line dancing. After remarrying she then extended her sport life to include wind surfing, snow skiing, square dancing, and pool shooting She loved traveling and together they went through most of the US states, including Alaska and Hawaii. She went to Europe on three occasions which included skiing in the Austrian Alps. They also went to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico twice. Genie also loved going to the casinos and playing the slot machines. She even got to gamble at Diamond Tooth Gurdies in Dawson City Yukon Territory Canada. They made several trips to the East Coast. And she got to see many of our National Parks.

Genie was a loving and supporting wife a great mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Bob Hockett, children Tom Marks of Las Vegas Nevada, Leslie Marks of Bakersfield, Amber Osborn of Gothenburg Nebraska, and Dawn Jordan of Bakersfield. She has ten grand children and fifteen great grand children. She will be missed by all of them.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 15 at 11:00am, at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
