George Ashcraft

George Ashcraft, one of eleven children, was born February 22, 1932 in Coolidge, Arizona to Henry and Opal Ashcraft. He joined the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he moved to Shafter and worked for 60 years as a truck driver for Gerald Ford Trucking and Belridge Farms. He was active in the Shafter American Legion during the 1980's and served as post president.
He is survived by his children, Jack Baxter, Kathy Webb and husband Dennis and Annette Baxter; grandchildren, Steven Webb and wife Stephanie and their son, Sean; Brian Webb and his sons, Coby and Kaileb; Jarred Roark and wife Bailey; Thomas Roark; and Austen Baxter; Peggy Poston, mother of Kathy; and 7 siblings.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 22 at 12:30pm at Bakersfield National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, April 21 from 2pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter.
