George B. Gatson 1922-2012 Dad was born on October 12, 1922, to George Sr. and Ora Gatson, in Winchester Kentucky. In 1938, the family moved to Bakersfield. After high school, George joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in Colorado (CCC). When the war broke out in 1942, George enlisted in the U. S. Army, where he served with the 97th Infantry Division, 97th Reconnaissance Troop in Europe. After Germany surrendered, his division was reassigned for occupation duty in Japan. While on leave in 1944, George married Lucille. After the war, Dad and Mom began raising their family. George was in the grocery business for several years before embarking on a career in insurance. Upon retirement, Dad was a gentleman farmer in the Rosedale area. George was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Lucille, baby daughter Sharon Kay, and brothers Kenneth and James. He is survived by his children; Cheryl (Mike) Hobbs, Dennis (Stephanie) Gatson, Karen (Phil) Blakemore, Anita (Vincent) Sons, 4 grand-daughters, 3 grandsons, 8 great- grand-daughters, 5 great grandsons, and 1 great-great grandson. Dad was a self-taught guitar player which his family always enjoyed listening to.
