Dr. George T. Tatsuno
1951 - 2018

George Thomas Tatsuno passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 4, 2018. George was born on August 10, 1951 in Bakersfield, California to George and Nellie (Murotani) Tatsuno. He was a graduate of Bakersfield High School in 1969, Bakersfield College in 1971 and received his BA in Psychology from UCLA in 1974. At UCLA he met his future wife Jeanne (Higashida). George continued his education and lifelong passion for chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. During his time at Palmer, Jeanne and George were married in Los Angeles. Jeanne then joined him in Iowa and he completed Chiropractic College in 1978. George opened his own practice on 18th Street in Bakersfield in 1979 and relocated Tatsuno Chiropractic to its current location on Truxtun Avenue in 1987. Through his 32 years of chiropractic practice he influenced many people to follow in his footsteps including his son, Matthew, who succeeded George in 2009.

George began practicing Judo at six years old and was very involved in the martial art for the rest of his life. He was a sixth-degree black belt and was honored to represent the USA in the Olympics. George also was a proud member of the BHS Football team where he was a member of a Valley Championship team. George continued to support youth athletics in Bakersfield including BHS Football and Baseball, BC Baseball and Women's Basketball, and instructing Judo for over 40 years.

George Tatsuno was a man full of life and love. He was the life of the party and loved his family and friends unselfishly. To know George was to love him. He was always ready with a wonderful story, a joke to lighten the mood, or a quick one-liner to keep you on your toes. George was proud of his Japanese heritage and put his family first and foremost in his life. George was preceded in death by his parents George and Nellie Tatsuno. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 41 years Jeanne, his son Matthew (Kacey) Tatsuno, daughter Shannon (Steve) Chai, sister Marlene Tatsuno, brother Stuart Tatsuno, grandchildren Piper, Gibson, Saylor & Haddon, his mother in law Helen Higashida, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will take place to honor George's aloha spirit on Monday, August 13, at 11 am at St. John's Lutheran Church at 4500 Buena Vista Road with a reception to follow. The family will be wearing casual/Hawaiian attire and welcome friends to do the same.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of George may be made to Palmer College of Chiropractic, Office of Advancement 1000 Brady Street Davenport, IA 52803; United Association of Judo, 2059 Merrick Road #313 Merrick, NY 11566; or Bakersfield College Baseball Attn: Baseball 1801 Panorama Drive Bakersfield, CA 93306.
