Gino Barsuglia Obituary
Gino Barsuglia June 11, 1928 - June 27, 2013 Gino was born June 11, 1928 in Toredelago, Italy and died peacefully at the age of 85 at Trinity in Bakersfield. His parents were Antonio and lole Barsuglia. Gino has 2 sisters (Scilla) Valdagio and Fiorella Nordi and brother-in-law John France. Also four nieces and four nephews who all reside in Italy today. Gino graduated from grammar school and high school in Viareggio, Italy. Upon graduation he headed to the United States being accepted at San Francisco State College and worked as a bookkeeper to subsidize his education. He immediately began to pursue his college dreams and goals. In the midst of his perfect world he met the love of his life Geni Pierucci and were married in 1957. Through thick and thin they really were a twosome for 55 years. They shared a lifetime of beautiful memories traveling to Italy (12) times, France (3), Switzerland and Hawaii. Unfortunately after retiring from being a foreign language teacher for 26 years, tragedy struck. He had a stroke but Gino courageously dealt with his limitations. In 1992 they moved to Bakersfield to be close to family. Gino always considered himself a rich man in the sense he accomplished all his goals in life. Marriage, BA degree and a masters in French. He spoke 4 languages fluently, English, Spanish, French, and Italian. An avid swimmer and a swimming coach who led them to the championship 6 years in a row, and an avid fisherman, how he loved the sea with his fishing buddy Phil Fogai. We will dearly miss Gino. He was a man of dignity. Gino really was a true Italian man and God did he love Italian food and conversing with people. Thank you Trinity (Ernie and Wilma) for the great love and care you showed him. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal Death leaves a memory no one can steal. Honorary pallbearers will be David Torigiani, Jeff Torigiani, Ronnie Torigiani, Richard Torigiani, Mike Torigiani, Steven Torigiani. In lieu of flowers please send donations in Gino's memory to . Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. DOUGHTY-CALHOUN-O'MEARA www.bakersfield.com/obits
