Glen Patrick Haenelt was born on Oct. 16, 1987 in Bakersfield, CA to parents Robert and Joanie Haenelt. He graduated from Liberty High School in 2005. A gifted athlete, Glen played baseball at Taft College and received an athletic scholarship to attend U. of New Mexico Highlands. After college, Glen focused his life on physical fitness and nutrition. My continuous offerings of pizza and beer were always countered with chicken breasts and protein shakes, but it was hard to argue with him. He had a body that would make most men put their shirts back on and ask him for a training session. His kind heart and infectious smile made him well-known and loved in the community. For a time, I was frequently referred to as "Glen's Brother". Glen eventually settled into an office job, fell in love, and married his wife Kara Chase in 2013. He loved spending time on the golf course, walking his dogs, and watching the Dodgers beat the Giants. While not without his flaws, Glen's compassion and selflessness made the lives of everyone around him better. He was a good friend, a loving husband, a devote son, and the best brother I could ask for. His passing has a left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. Glen was preceded in death by his brother Luke Haenelt.
We love you Glen. Take care of Luke for us. We will miss you always.
-Your brother Anthony Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10AM on Monday, March 14th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on 124 Columbus St. A reception will be held immediately after services, at the Bakersfield City Firefighter's' Hall on 7320 Wible Road. In lieu of flowers, pick up a baseball and play catch with a family member. If you can't catch or throw, a simple random act of kindness will do. He would have liked that.
