Glenn "Douglas" Smith was born Nov. 7, 1936 in Carter, OK to Eldon and Opal Smith. He passed away at his home in Bakersfield on Saturday, Feb 6, 2016 at the age of 79.
Doug was a loving and giving man with a brilliant mind; always willing to lend a hand and firmly believed in living life to the fullest. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1957. He worked his entire life as a Cement Finisher/General Contractor. His hobbies included camping, karaoke, dancing, reading and spending time with family.
Doug is survived by his wife of three years, Angela; two brothers, Bob and Farrel Smith; in-laws, Marcia and Nolan Phillips; three sons, Lee (Kathy), Michael, and Doug (Brenda); two daughters, Dawn and Robbie; two sisters-in-law, Victoria and Samantha; brother-in-law Johnny; twenty-three grandkids; thirty-nine great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and a multitude of nephews, nieces and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; sister, Betty Ferguson; spouse, Sandra; daughter, Teresa Juarez; and grandson, Anthony Juarez.
A special thanks to grandson Corey Villarreal for the constant and loving care he provided to his grandfather during his final days.
The pillar of our family, with his twinkling blue eyes and lively smile, will be dearly missed but will live on in our hearts forever.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2216 17th St., in Bakersfield, CA on Thursday, Feb 11th at 11 am.
