Glenn William Gerdes Obituary
Mr. Gerdes was a native of Minnesota and had lived in Bakersfield for 46 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He served in the Artillery Division and was in Korea for 9 months. He worked as a John Deere service foreman for 32 years, then became a real estate salesman for 25 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and enjoyed serving as an usher for many years.
Glenn found many ways to be of service by sharing his knowledge of home repairs. If something needed to be repaired everyone knew that Glenn would know how to do it. He was an honest and caring person who gave generously of himself.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dona Gerdes; sister, Delia Oberloh of Minnesota; sister-in-law, Debra (Marshall) Wiley of Bakersfield; brother-in-law, Walter Latuska (Debra) of Minnesota; brother-in-law, Eugene Latuska of Minnesota; and 16 nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Optimal Hospice workers, especially Alma, Madelyn and Tanya; also his long time helper Jerry.
A memorial service will be at St. John's Lutheran Church, 4500 Buena Vista Road, Saturday, August 16th, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Dennis Hilken will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Gerdes' memory to St. John's Memorial Fund or the .
