Gloria Ann Summers, 82, of Bakersfield, California residing in Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 25, 2009 at Asbury Care Center/Aldersgate enduring a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was a native of Syracuse, New York but lived most of her life in Bakersfield. Mrs. Summers was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mayfred LaClair. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Jim Summers; her sister, Norma Mahar; and brother, Richard LaClair. Mrs. Summers was retired from Home Savings/Washington Mutual where she loved to work and made many friends. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, and most of all spending time with her family. She was a wonderful grandmother (Nan)! Mrs. Summers survivors include her son, Gary Summers; daughter, Carol Mears and husband Roger; grandchildren, Casey Mears and fiancée Trisha Grablander, Zachary Summers; great granddaughter, Samantha Mears; Aunt Betty Marcil; cousin, Ame Marcil and wife Mary (Moe); nieces, Darlene Welles, and Jackie Conrad. The family would like to thank Dr. Rich Elsey for his concern and excellent care. The family would also like to thank all of Mrs. Summers caregivers within Neighborhood C at Aldersgate Memory Support Cuthbertson Village and Asbury Care Center.
