Gloria Gail (Thurmond) Hall March 7, 1932 ~ September 15, 2013 Gloria passed from this life peacefully at 11:30 p.m. on September 15, 2013, in San Joaquin Hospital, Bakersfield, as a result of an injury sustained in a fall at her home. Gloria was born in Springfield, Missouri on March 7, 1932, to Clarence Thurmond and Anita (Snoddy) Thurmond. She lived in the communities of Ash Grove and Everton, Missouri, until the age of four, when her mother relocated to Delano, California, during the height of the Great Depression. She attended Cecil Avenue Elementary and Delano High School, graduating in the class of 1950. She attended Draughon's Business College in Springfield, Missouri, in 1960.She returned to Bakersfield and joined KERO-TV in the Traffic Department, where she met her husband-to-be, Norm Hall. Norm and Gloria were married in 1962 and were privileged to share 42 years of marriage. She was a homemaker and mother. Norm and Gloria enjoyed square dancing and round dancing and made many friends through the years. Gloria was a country girl at heart and enjoyed collecting American antiques and embellishing her home with French country decor items and antique linens. Her heart was never far from the hills of Missouri. She enjoyed spending time in the southwest Missouri Ozarks at the family home place, a designated Missouri Century Farm near Ash Grove, Missouri, as time permitted. She enjoyed her home, yard, and flowers and was a frequent patron of local theatrical and musical productions. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman E. Hall, in 2004. She is survived by her children: Lonnie Briggs (Jennifer), Seattle, Washington; Anita Segal (Steven), Calabasas, California; Timothy Hall, Ash Grove, Missouri. Grandchildren: Matthew Segal, Los Angeles, California; Michael Segal, Washington, D.C.; Brennan Briggs, League City, Texas; her faithful companion of late, Les Martens, Bakersfield, California; a special dog, Buffy; and a host of caring friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, in the Ash Grove Cemetery, Ash Grove, Missouri, Rev. Tom Geer officiating under the direction of Wilson-Brim-Daniel Funeral Home, Ash Grove, Missouri. We express our heartfelt thanks to her neighbors, first responders, and the very professional staff in the San Joaquin Hospital Intensive Care Unit for the care and concern shown our mother.
