Gloria Lou Walker Obituary
Gloria Lou Walker, age 88, passed away on May 26, 2014. She was born on October 11, 1925, in Clinton, Indiana, to Cecil Andrew Royer and Elsie Lenora Brawand. She grew up in Jasonville, Indiana, and graduated from Jasonville High School.
Following World War II, Gloria married Harold K. Oren and moved to California, where she enjoyed being a homemaker and mother, residing primarily in the Ventura area. After Harold's passing, Gloria continued her work at the Naval Civil Engineering Laboratory in Port Hueneme. Eventually, Gloria married Paul Walker, and in their retirement. they enjoyed performing in vocal ensembles together and travelling. Shortly after Paul's passing, she moved to Bakersfield to be near family.
Gloria had a beautiful voice and loved music, singing, and playing the piano. She was involved in many vocal groups, performing in a variety of venues during her lifetime. Gloria also loved the ocean and for many years, she volunteered for the Coast Guard Auxiliary doing patrol and rescue.
Gloria is preceded in death by her husbands and her son, Steven Oren. She is survived by her brother, Robert Royer (Jackie) of Brownsburg, Indiana, her daughter, Valerie Lewis (Steve), five grandchildren, Joshua Lewis (Katie), Michael Oren, Kristin Lewis, Bryan Oren (Allison), and Danielle Oren, and four great-grandchildren.
The family thanks Hallmark of Bakersfield and Hoffman Hospice for their compassion and exceptional care. The family requests any gifts be directed to The Wounded Warrior Project or T.A.P.S. (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) in honor of her memory.
Recitation of the Rosary will be at 9 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at St. Philip the Apostle Church.
