Helen E. McLean Obituary
Helen E. McLean 1921 - 2013 Graveside Services for Helen E. McLean will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hill of Valor, at 2 p.m. Helen was born on October 16, 1921 in Oakland, CA. to John and Ruth Moran and passed away in Bakersfield, CA. on April 9, 2013 at the age of 91. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bill McLean in 2005; son Dan McLean in 1995; grandson Ryan McLean in 2008. She is survived by her son Dennis McLean (Laura); grandchildren Ashley Menear (Mike), Audrey McLean and Emily McLean; great grandchildren Stacey McLean and Brooklyn Smith. Helen lived in Hermosa Beach, CA. as a child until the family moved to Placerville, CA. in 1930, where she graduated from El Dorado High School in 1939, then moved to Bakersfield and attended Lufkins Business College. After graduation she worked as a manager for Regina Vacuum Cleaners before getting a job as a secretary bookkeeper during World War II for USAF at Minter field where she met her husband Bill and married in 1947. After their two sons, Danny and Denny, were born her job then was being a mom and she enjoyed being a homemaker. Early family activities included boating and water skiing where they were early members of the Kern County Boat and Ski Club. Helen also liked cooking, baking, yard work, painting, leaded glass work and refinishing furniture. Her house of 60 years was full of antiques with a story behind every piece. After Bill's retirement, they traveled abroad, but mostly enjoyed home life. The family would like to thank the staff of Evergreen Gardens, Optimal Hospice, and close friends for their help and moral support. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the at www.alz.org.
