Helen Mae Crown Obituary

Helen was born to Ida Mae Mecham Chauran and Camille Cedy Chauran in Bakersfield California.

Helen was very proud of her heritage. Her father born in Marseilles France, and her mother's family was from the pioneer Mecham family of Bakersfield. She was married on June 15, 1952 to the love of her life, John Everett Crown. John and Helen owned and operated C&W Auto Wrecking and Crown City Trailer Park and Cabins from the 1950's to 1979 when they sold it to retire. Helen took pride in working side by side with her husband at the wrecking yard. She could disassemble a motor just as fast as he could, which earned her the title " Junkyard Queen". John and Helen loved going camping in their motor home and belonged to the IOF Camping Club for years, up until John's health prohibited them to travel. They loved it when they took their little camper, Jennifer, with them. Together they taught ball room dancing to "special children", under the supervision of Johnny Soiu during the 1970's. During the Christmas holiday, Helen would "supervise" decorating the Christmas tree at her daughter's house. Her amber eyes always lite up when talking about her granddaughter Jennifer and grandson Ty. Helen was known to eat a whole lemon pie at one setting and loved spaghetti. She never missed an opportunity to dance, was feisty, funny and quick to speak her mind. We will miss that!

Preceded in death by her husband, John Crown and two sons, Roger Mahurin and Everett Crown. Helen leaves behind a daughter, Glenna McCutcheon and son in law, D.A. McCutcheon; daughter in law Lois Mahurin; grandchildren Jennifer and Ryan Fisher, Ty and Kristen McCutcheon, Deana and Richard Field, Kristi and Steve Simpronio, Melissa and John Layman, Casey and Cherith Crown, Matt and Amanda Crown. Helen leaves behind 8 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Carter, Ever, Ashlee, Sierra, Ryleigh, Alyssa and Maxwell. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Bakersfield SPCA, 3000 Gibson Street, Bakersfield, CA 93308.

A graveside service will held on Saturday, February 27 at 2pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park 9101 Kern Canyon Rd Bakersfield Ca 93306.
