Hugh Elgin Ray Obituary
Hugh Elgin Ray departed this world for his home in heaven, July 18, 2014. Elgin was born in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, to Hugh and Vivian Ray on August 2, 1921. As a World War II veteran, he served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army. Following the war and for the majority of his adult life, Elgin worked in the lumber business, first in O'Neill, Nebraska and then, from 1961 until his retirement in 1986, at Egland & Aaron Lumber Company in Bakersfield.
Elgin was a member of St. Mark's Methodist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a 75 year member of DeMolay, a lifetime member of Scottish Rite, a member of Caledonia Lodge and Al Malaikah. He also enjoyed going to Footprinters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Margaret Rhodes and his first wife, Betty. He is survived by his wife, Beverly, daughters, Mary Spafford (Jim) of Santa Maria and Debbie Feil (Larry) of Bakersfield, four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel, Wednesday, July 23rd at 2:00pm.
