Ione Marie King Obituary
Ione Marie (Randolph) King passed away to be with her Lord on April 7, 2014, at Bakersfield Heart Hospital after a long illness. She was born in Spokane, WA, on January 27, 1927, and grew up in Missoula, MT, with many of those years on the Randolph Ranch. She is survived by her children, Robert (Rande) Randolph King (Lynn) of Irvine, CA, Curtis Howard King (Sharon), James (Barney) Barnwell King, Timothy Patrick King, Robin Marie Price (Jay), all of Bakersfield, CA, along with seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Norma Jean Guthridge and Shirley Ann Verworn (Gordon Verworn). She was preceded in death by her sister, Irene Liedorff (Gale Liedorff); and grandson, James Benjamin Price.
Ione graduated from Montana County High School (Hellgate High), Missoula, MT, in 1945. She attended nursing school shortly thereafter. On October 15, 1946, she married Robert Carl King and together made their family of the five children mentioned above.
Ione's occupations started in the Tehachapi School District (Wells Elementary) as a secretary for many years, then on to San Francisco for secretarial work with Jews for Jesus, and finishing as an insurance agent with Walter Mortensen Insurance in Bakersfield.
Her biggest accomplishment was her family of five children - of which three were triplets, Rande, Curtis, and Barney - and surviving it to the age of 87. This was not an easy accomplishment.
She had the great fortune of living out the last five years of her life in the country that she so loved, Poso Flat in the Bakersfield Mountains. Her favorite pastime was viewing mountains, flowers, rabbits, squirrels, bobcats, coyotes, badgers, hawks, eagles, and cows from the windows of her home. This brought back fond memories of her childhood home on the Randolph Ranch.
A chapel service will be held on Monday, April 14, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, 2739 Panama Lane. For condolences please visit www.greenlawnmortuaryandcemetery.com.
