Irene Sayer Obituary
Irene Sayer, 98, of Broomfield, Colorado, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014, at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.
A celebration of Irene's life will be held at Church of the Ascension in Bismarck, ND, on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 10:00am, with Rev. Msgr. James Braaten officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Irene was born June 15, 1916, in New Leipzig, ND, and raised in Elgin, ND. She was one of two children born to Michael and Loretta Rausch. She attended St. Catherine's College in Saint Paul, MN, graduating in 1938. After college, she worked in Rochester, MN, and Woodland, CA, before finally settling in Bakersfield, CA, in 1947. She married Wayne Sayer in 1946 and divorced in 1957.
She worked as a medical secretary for the next 40+ years for Doctors Osell and Gundry and at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield. She raised her two sons, John and Robert, before retiring in the mid-80s. She moved to Broomfield, CO, in 2010 to live near her loved ones.
Irene enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was particularly fond of cats, Yahtzee, road trips, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and the Taco Bell Taco Supreme. She was also known for her good humor, quick wit, and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her sons, John Sayer, of Livermore, CA, and Robert Sayer, of Superior, CO; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and six nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Loretta Rausch; her brother, Dean Rausch; and her daughter-in-law, Gwen Sayer.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Sunrise at Flatirons for the loving care they provided Irene.
