Irenia Rodriguez Valdez July 8, 1927 - October 24, 2012 Irenia Rodriguez Valdez, (Irene), was born on July 8, 1927 in Cerralvo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico who passed at 85 years old on October 24, 2012 in Bakersfield, Ca, surrounded by her loving family. She immigrated to the United States on June 6, 1956 with her husband, Santos H. Valdez, where they settled in Arvin, California. She was a housewife/laborer in the Central Valley all her life until she retired. She was active in her parish, St. Thomas Church and took great joy volunteering her services. She loved to cook and have yard sales with her inseparable best cousin, Anastacia Benavidez and best friend Carlota Gonzalez. One of her greatest passions was working in her rose garden. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished being together with her children. She is preceded in death by her husband, one sister, Erminia R. Gonzalez, brother, Librado Rodriguez, and her grandson Samuel Valdez Gonzalez. She is survived by her brother, Andres Rodriguez; her seven children, Rafaela Gonzalez, (Diego), Guadalupe Loya, (Guillermo), Daniel Valdez, (Berta), Isaias Valdez, (Lydia), Eleazar Valdez, (Irene), Sylvia Rodriguez, (Edward), and Magdalena Vieyra, (Phillip); seventeen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. Services include viewing on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Basham Funeral Care, 3312 Niles St. in Bakersfield, California. Church services will be at Saint Thomas Church on Bear Mt. Blvd., in Arvin, California, on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at So. Kern Cemetery District (Arvin).
