Ivan was born in Oklahoma City, OK to parents, John and Alloma Ledbetter. They moved to Bakersfield when he was a young child. He met his future wife, Lola Morgan at a church youth group in 1953. They later were married on October 6, 1961. They have two children: son, Darren (Teresa) and daughter, Carrie Anne Maxted. He had seven grandchildren, Jessica Mead, Justin Mead, Jason Mead, Corey Ledbetter, Michael Ledbetter, Carlee Riddle and Sean Maxted; four great grandchildren, Logan, Raden, Scarlett and Rosalynn, and Lola yet to be born. He is preceded in death by his parents and three half brothers, Herman, Wilfred, and Clifford.
Ivan worked for the Bakersfield City Schools for 25 years before being disabled by a stroke in 1986. As a young person, Ivan developed a love of sports. He participated in track events, setting some records as a Junior High Student. He played football for 4 years at EBHS and continued his track events. He also played many years of softball. Ivan as an adult, shared his expertise in track with elementary students in his schools. He accomplished these feats in spite of being severely hearing impaired from birth. Ivan was a member of Canyon Hills Assembly of God and during his walk with God he was a Royal Ranger Commander, assistant Sunday School teacher and a church usher and helped with many other activities. In later life, Ivan enjoyed watching the San Francisco 49ers, USC Trojans, and Oklahoma Sooners on t.v. He loved watching westerns and especially John Wayne movies. He enjoyed many years of RVing with family and traveling the USA and several other countries, and cruises were great also. He spent his last 8 years enjoying life with friends at Florence Garden's Senior Housing complex. Papa Ivan will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
