Jack Towery Obituary
Jack passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2014. Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Gwen; his children Rick (Karin) Towery, Jill (Marc) Halling, Jana Rogers, step children Debbie Simpson, Darren (Connie) Brumback, 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Jack was born and raised in McFarland, California. He graduated from McFarland High School in 1950. He attended Bakersfield College until 1953. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and discharged in 1955. he continued his college education, graduating from San Jose State University in 1957. He began his career with the Kern High School District in 1957. He was an avid teacher and baseball coach at South High School until he became the first Athletic Director of Highland High School in 1970. In 1982, Jack became director of Maintenance and Operations for the Kern high School District. He retired from the Kern High School District in 1992. Jack will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at Basham Funeral Care, 3312 Niles Street. Services will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Luke's Anglican Church, 2730 Mall View Road. Interment will follow at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd.
