1941 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
Jim died peacefully at San Gorgonio Hospital on September 23, 2016 at the age of 75.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marilee Russell; daughter, Kate Toothacre; son-in-law, Danny Toothacre; and brother, Andy Russell. He is preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Shore and her three children; his mother, Luella Russell of Shafter, CA; and his father Frank Russell, of Shafter, CA. Jim was born on March 26, 1941 in Wasco, CA to Frank and Luella Russell.
Jim grew up in Shafter, CA and graduated from Shafter High School Class of 1959. Jim later lived in San Jose, Santa Barbara, and Moreno Valley, CA. He graduated from Westmont College with a degree in Sociology and Cal Luther with Master's in Special Education. Jim retired from the Moreno Valley School District in 2002 as a second grade teacher. Along with the 17 years he spent teaching, he also ran a group home for boys with his wife, Marilee, and was an accomplished floral designer and artist. Jim married Marilee on July 2, 1966 in Ventura, CA and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past summer. During retirement, Jim and Marilee relocated to Beaumont, CA and spent their time playing cards, cruising, and going to theme parties in their community. Jim cultivated many wonderful friendships throughout his life and during retirement and his presence will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont, CA on Saturday, October 8th at 2pm. Those who knew Jim are welcome to attend and we ask that you wear something colorful and bright in honor of Jim. Rev. Jack Grubbs, a longtime friend of the family, will officiate.
