James E. Williams
"Pastor Jim"
November 22, 1946 - April 18, 2018
Jim Williams, longtime Kern County resident and pastor of several Southern Baptist Churches and former Missionary to Mexico, was welcomed into his final reward on April 18th after many years of illness. Born in Bakersfield and raised in Lamont, he graduated from Arvin High School in 1964. He subsequently served in the U.S. Army, including a year-long stint in Vietnam, where he was exposed to Agent Orange (dioxin), and received two Purple Heart Medals for injuries sustained in battle. Answering God's call, he and his wife Nancy Lambert Williams moved their small family to attend PBC (Messenger College), where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Missions and Pastoral Theology. He served a four-year appointment in Mexico, where he supervised a school attended by impoverished youth and pioneered many churches. The following years included pastoral ministries in Bakersfield, Arvin, Lamont, and Shafter. Sadly he was unable to achieve his wish to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary this coming August.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dillard and Winnie Williams, his sisters Norma Jean Arnold, Virginia Cagle, and Lois Brown. He is survived by his wife Nancy Williams, his sons Jimmy Williams (Danielle) and Timothy Williams (Samantha), his grandsons Hunter and Fischer Williams, his brother Carl Williams, his sisters Mary Ross, Edith Burns, and JoAnn Moore, and many extended family members.
Viewing will be held on Monday, April 23 from 4pm-8pm at Greenlawn Mortuary on River Blvd. Graveside services will be held at the same location on Tuesday, April 24 at 9am. A Memorial Service will be celebrated following the graveside at 11am at Fellowship Baptist Church at 3001 Stone Road in Bakersfield.
Pastor Jim would want you to know that Jesus died for you and rose so that you would not have to suffer eternal separation from God. Family and friends look forward to the day that we will rejoice with him in Heaven.

Jimmy when you were a young boy about 13 probably, I would watch you walk down our street in Lamont. I could see God all over you and me just a child. I will see you soon. You were loved with the love of the Lord from my window.
