Pastor James Edward Phillips went to be with the Lord peacefully in Bakersfield, Ca on October 6, 2015 at the age of 63.
James was born on January 7, 1952 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Rufus and Alice Phillips. He graduated from Bakersfield High School in January 1970. In November 1970 he enlisted in the United States Navy. After his service he worked with the State of California Department of Water Resources He retired as Chief Hydroelectric Plant Operator in 2008.
James had many accomplishments, one being he graduated from Christian Life School of Theology with a Bachelor's of Art, Master's & Doctrine in Theology. James served the Lord accepting Christ over his life on January 8, 1989. He will truly be missed as a man of God, loving husband, awesome father and devoted Papa.
James leaves to celebrate his home-going his wife, Sharon Phillips; sons: James Phillips Jr. (Deneen), Jason Phillips (Jamie) and Jamaal Phillips (Teesha); daughters Lakesa Phillips, Jamesha Philips and Jamalah Phillips (Toree), brother Eddie Wilson, sisters: Joyce Phillips, Gloria Anderson, Mary Jane Johnson, Shirley Carrero and Charlene Demus along with 15 grandchildren and a host of family and special friends.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015, 10 a.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1401 E. Brundage Lane. Pastor Roland Banks of Compassion Christian Center will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to celebrate James' life. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rucker's Mortuary.
