James Gonzales Obituary
On March 27, 2014 James "Chuey" L. Gonzales was called home to the Lord. He was born in Bakersfield, CA on January 27, 1925 to Leno and Refugio Gonzales. He was one of 9 children and attended our Lady of Guadalupe School as well as Kern Union High School. His family was originally from San Fernando, CA and they lived and worked all throughout the San Joaquin Valley and always came back home to Bakersfield. He worked for the Bakersfield City School district for 25 years as a custodian at many elementary schools including Jefferson Elementary, Colonial Baker Elementary, Harding Elementary and retiring from Mt. Vernon Elementary School.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Margaret C. Gonzales who left us in November of 2012, his son Ricardo who passed away in 1995 and his brothers and sisters Tony, Frances, Leno, Lupe, Ramona and Carmelo. Living the remainder of his life without his wife was difficult for him after being married for 55 years. Now he is at last reunited with his love Margie and his son Ricardo. He is strong again, whole again and living everlasting life singing the praises of the Lord, our God in Heaven.
He is survived by his brother and best friend Joe Gonzales, his sister Mary G. Cisneros of Bakersfield, CA, his daughter Patricia Washington, and his Grandchildren Rachel and Samuel Washington of Fresno, CA.
Viewing will be at Basham-Anspach Funeral Care 620 Oregon Street, Bakersfield, CA on Thursday April 3rd at 5:00 PM with Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Church on Friday April 4th at 12:00 noon. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery on River Blvd.
