James Leo Hubble Obituary
James Leo Hubble April 5th 1929 - December 17th 2012 Leo was born April 5th 1929, in Yuma, Arizona, to Arthur and Allie Hubble and passed away, age 83, December 17th 2012, at his home in Bakersfield, California, surrounded by his wife of 47 years and his children. After graduating from Shafter High in 1947, Leo went to work for C&H Sugar refinery in Crockett, California. Opportunity brought him back to Bakersfield where he entered the construction trade, joining the Lathers' Union Local 300 in 1951. Respected as one of the best lathers in Bakersfield, he later became a contractor and started Leo Hubble Lathing in the early 1960's; after 35 successful years, he retired in 1998. He was proud to have participated in numerous construction projects, including The Valley Plaza, Cerro Coso Community College, Mercy Southwest Administration, and thousands of other residential and commercial properties. In 1980, Leo Hubble Lathing became one of the first contractors in California to use Styrofoam as an insulator on the exterior of houses, a process widely used today. On June 25th, 1965, Leo married Shirley Ann Cribbs; this was a second marriage for both, and they combined their families of four children each. Leo was a wonderful father to all eight children and worked hard to provide for them. In 1967, he and Shirley joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple for "time and all eternity." Despite his many responsibilities, Leo enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and traveling with friends. After the children were grown, he and Shirley traveled to such places as Germany, Switzerland, and China; he returned from every trip with tales of exotic foods and interesting customs. Leo lived a full life, but nothing meant more to him than family. As his family expanded over the years, so did his capacity for love. His compassion, kindness, and generosity for others brought him admiration and respect from all who knew him. Leo is survived by the love of his life Shirley Ann, brother Newell (Aliene) Hubble, children Erick (Vickie) Hubble, Aaron (Cindy) Hubble, Iris (John) McCaa, Colleen McCaslin, Jody (Don) Ellis, Helen (Mike) McNitt, Ronald (Val) Hubble, Stephen (Flora) Hubble, 24 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Memorial services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 601 Deseret Way, Bakersfield, California, at 1:00. A graveside service will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Panama Lane. Pall Bearers will be Leo's sons: Erick Hubble, Aaron Hubble, Ronald Hubble, and Stephen Hubble. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Leo's grandsons: Joshua Hubble, Kelley Hubble, Jordan McCaa, Jake McCaa, Thomas Sedwick, Dustin Hubble, Derek Hubble, Joel Kephart, Kameron Kephart, Nicholas Kephart, Stephen D.
