James Leroy Padgett Obituary
Jim was born in The Dalles, Oregon, the second child of James Benjamin and Claretta Padgett. He was raised with his sister Kay and brother Leon. The family moved to Bakersfield and Jim attended Fairfax School and Foothill High School. He graduated in 1968 and joined the U.S. Navy and served his Duty, to our country, on the USS Constellation CVA64, an aircraft carrier, during the Vietnam War.
On September 25, 1970 he married the love of his life Bonnie Leone (Hins) Padgett and they have one loving son, Timothy Roy Padgett.
Jim had various jobs until he settled in and worked for the Bakersfield City School District as a bus driver, and the summer of 1986 he went to work for Golden Empire Transit, as a coach driver, and was employed there for 28 years. He was loved by all his fellow employees and all those who rode with him on his daily route.
Jim loved our country and our flag. He was a patriot through and through. He loved his motorcycles and his "old" military vehicles. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0026 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #97. He loved participating in the Annual Bakersfield Toy run with all his buddies. He also drove in many Bakersfield Veterans Day Parades.
Jim is survived by his wife Bonnie, son Tim, Mother Claretta Padgett, sister and spouse Kay and Jim Mills of North Corolina, brother Leon and spouse Kathy of Bakersfield and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was a wonderful man, a loving husband, and devoted father. He was stubborn and set in his ways, but that is who he was. He was also fun loving, kind, genuine, and a true friend to all.
He will be greatly missed by all. Go with God, sweetheart. I will see you soon, your devoted wife Bonnie XOXOXO
