James Lewis McCulloch Obituary
James Lewis McCulloch September 23, 1932-November 25, 2013 James Lewis McCulloch was born in Walla Walla, Washington to James Samuel McCulloch and Marie Houston Lewis McCulloch on September 23, 1932. He spent his early years living in College Place, Washington before moving with his parents to Mountain View, California. He graduated from Mountain View Academy before attending Pacific Union College and Walla Walla College. While attending Walla Walla College he met Myleen BoSanco, also a student and on August 15, 1954 they were married in College Place, Washington. Two weeks later James started dental school at Loma Linda University. While in Loma Linda a son was born to the young couple, James Lewis McCulloch Jr. Following graduation from dental school the family moved to Mansfield, Ohio where a daughter was born, Toni Marie McCulloch Nickell. The family lived in Ohio for three years before moving to Bakersfield, California in August of 1961. James started his dental practice on Union Avenue and practiced for many years before becoming employed at Tehachapi State Prison where he worked until his retirement. He was an active member of the Hillcrest Seventh Day Adventist church and also spent many years in support of Bakersfield Academy on the school board and as school board chairman. He enjoyed golf, flying in his Cessna 182 and traveling with his wife Myleen. After his retirement he faithfully visited Myleen who was at Parkview Julian Convalescent Hospital due to multiple health problems. He was dedicated to his grandchildren driving many miles throughout the west coast for their weddings and graduation ceremonies. He loved to sit by the small river by his daughter Toni's house listening to the water, birds and feeling the warm sunshine. He is survived by his daughter Toni Nickell and her husband Jerry Nickell living in Baker City, Oregon; their children Joshua Nickell, Jonathan and Kinsey Nickell and Jaimie and Sam Derting; his daughter in law Karen McCulloch and her children Caitlin McCulloch and Tyler McCulloch. His son James McCulloch Jr. passed away in 2006 from Multiple Myeloma and his wife Myleen McCulloch passed away in August of 2012.
