James Schekel Obituary
James (Jim) Schekel, 74, of Pismo Beach, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014, after a long battle with lung cancer.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Derold Schekel. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cookie (Jackie) Schekel; daughters, Leslie (Ben) Geissel and Jeanette (John) Speka and his son Mike (Sara) Fowler; his sister Leta Secondary (Amir), brothers Vernon Schekel(Ruby) and John Schekel (Paulette); as well as his seven grandchildren and many friends.
Jim was born on March 31, 1939 in Bakersfield, California and attended Arvin High School. He joined the Army at the age of 15 and served 7 years stationed in Germany. He always had many stories to tell about his experience there. He worked in Bakersfield as a liquor salesman before moving to Pismo Beach in 1980. He worked in San Luis Obispo for 30 plus years as a salesman for Kaney Foods and made many friends in the restaurant business. He was Salesman of the Year at Kaney's and they called him "The Legend". He was a terrific salesman and could sell ice to an eskimo. Everyone who knew him loved him. He loved to tell jokes and no one could tell them like he did. He also loved to play golf and spend time with his friends, family and grandchildren, who called him "Graaammmpa". We love you and will miss you very much.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, January 27th at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 800 Bello Street, Pismo Beach, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church, Needy Family Fund.
