James Withrow Wesson Obituary

James Withrow Wesson was born on December 19, 1928 at 6:00 am to Haller Clarence, Sr. and Fodell Wesson (Edwards) in Ozan, Arkansas, Hempstead County. He was the oldest of four children, Haller, Jr, Ernest and Idell. Their mother passed away while Idell was just an infant. His father has a difficult time trying to work and raise four young children. James went to live with the William Walker family. Haller, Jr. and Ernest went to live with the Marshall family. His father kept Idel and later married again. He married Bama McFadden, a widow, who had four children, Mary, Earl, Florene and Ivory. In 1942 the family relocated to Kern County and as they were leaving, 14 year old James also hitched a ride. The family eventually settled in Bakersfield, CA James had to learn to work hard very early in his life and he never had the opportunity to receive any formal education. He later learned to read and write when he was middle age. In 1947, he met his wife Mildred Vinson in Arvin, CA. Her Family had relocated from Bockhito, Oklahoma in 1945. James and Mildred were married on December 24th 1947. On October 6, 1948, they had their first child, Jimmy Ray. They later had three more children, Barbara Jean, Ronnie Dean and Sharon Annette. After Sharon was born they separated. James relocated to Poicoma, CA in 1968. He lived in Paramount City, CA and then Burbank, CA until 2008. When he came back to Bakersfield, where he lived until his passing away. He worked in the food industry for over 37 years and had a close friendship with his employer. Throughout the years he and Mildred kept in touch. He came to Sharon's college graduation in 1981. Although he did not raise his children, he stated that he knew that they were being taken care of and that their basic needs were being met by his in-laws, Clyde and Helen (Maw) Vinson out at the "ranch". Jimmy, Barbra and Ronnie have lots of memories and hilarious stories about the "old man". He was proud of all of his children because they had graduated from high school, and we're successful in their lives. Jimmy was a veteran of the Navy and Sharon a Marine Corps veteran. Ronnie whos birthday is one day of James made sure that his children and grandchildren met and socialized with "Pops". Jimmy two boys also met their grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, three steps siblings and his son Jimmy. He leaved behind his wife of 67 years Mildred (Bakersfield, CA), three children, Barbara (husband Nomi) Dar (San Jose, CA), Ronnie (Rialto, CA) and Sharon (Bakersfield, CA). Five grandchildren, Jimmy Ray, Jr., Sabrina, Jamaal, Dannt and Helen. Three great grandchildren, Xaivier, Isiah and Xiomara (Cookie). Stepbrother Earl McFadden (Tehachapi, CA). Sister-in-law Rose Mae, a niece Linda Bell and nephews David Davis, Ernest, Darnell, Muchael, Donald, Carl, Richard and Frank a host of extended family living in Arkansas, Texas, California and Michigan.
