Jay Rex Stroud "Papa" March 12, 1922 - October 22, 2010 Rex, as he was know to many, was born in Long Beach, CA to Voet and Armina Stroud. He lived a wonderful 88 years. He was all about family. His goal in life was to make sure his family was well taken care of and he accomplished that. Rex "Papa" was a devoted husband, father and grandpa. Rex served as a 1st Lieutenant of the Air Force in WWII and the Korean War. He loved to fly airplanes. He was a member of Teamster Local 87 since 1946 and worked for Oilfields Trucking until 1981. Rex was a rancher in the Old River area for over 20 years and loved his Black Angus Cattle. Rex was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Norma Crawford Stroud; his parents, Voet and Armina Stroud; sister, Jewell Wead; brother, Jerome Stroud. Rex is survived by his only child, Son, Jay Steven Stroud and wife Christine; his grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Josh Thompson, Matthew Stroud, Jeffrey Stroud; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim Stroud and Todd; sister-in-law, Helen Stroud; nephews, David Wead, Aaron Stroud, Philip Stroud and Shaun Stroud; good friend, Bob Taylor; and girlfriend of 12 years who Rex referred to as his girl, June Evans, all of Bakersfield, CA. We all will miss Rex deeply. We would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, and staff of Mercy Hospital Truxtun who cared so deeply for Rex in his last days of life. Private services at Rex's request will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park. www.bakersfield.com/obits
