Jean Horace Obituary
On July 28, 2015 Jean Horace passed away after a long illness with her loving husband by her side.
Jean was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 23, 1920. As a child her family moved to Hollywood where she graduated from Hollywood High School. Jean met her husband Charles while they both worked at the movie theater. Jean became a Navy wife in 1945 in Corpus Christi, Texas. There Charles left to become a Navy fighter pilot on a carrier in the Pacific during World War II.
Jean worked as a secretary while Charles finished his education as a petroleum engineer at USC after the war. Times were hard and Charles got a job in Bakersfield as a petroleum engineer. Charles traveled the world with his job at Oxy and much of the responsibility of raising the kids fell to Jean. Jean was a small lady with a big knuckle. Those boys knew not to mess with her - a story she told us all many times.
Charles and Jean were long standing members of Bakersfield Country Club. There she had many friends and loved to play golf and bridge weekly. Her very favorite thing to do was to take her daughter Viki shopping in Beverly Hills and Costa Mesa.
Jean is survived by her husband of 70 years, Charles Horace, sons Brooks Horace and wife Carol, Gary and wife Laura, daughter Viki Williams and husband Jeff, grandchildren Gary Horace II, Michelle Whipple, Lisa and Michael Williams, and great grandchildren Madison and Trent Whipple.
The family would like to express a very special thanks and appreciation to Eva, Natalie, Yolanda, Angela and Krystal for caring for Jean after she had a stroke in 2008. They worked tirelessly helping with Jean to the very end. Also daughter Viki spent almost every day for seven years helping with her mom who was her best friend.
At per Mr. Horace's request there will be no services.
