Jeanne passed peacefully from this life the morning of April 22nd, 2014, after a gradual decline from a long illness. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family during the last days of her life.
Jeanne was born on July 26th 1927 in Wynona, Oklahoma. In 1939 at age 11, her family moved to California during the times of the Great Dust Bowl. First arriving in Paso Robles, they worked the farming fields from Santa Maria, Corcoran & Edison, and finally settled in Monterey, CA, where her parents worked in the fish canneries on Cannery Row. She grew up there and did office work; met her husband and married in 1962. In 1968, her husband's love for the San Joaquin Valley led her back to Kern County. She was an excellent bookkeeper and worked in the Circulation Accounting Dept. at "The Bakersfield Californian," until she retired in 1992.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Melroy Johnson, with whom she had been actively involved in his Operating Engineers Retirees Association, Chapter 3 of Bakersfield and Local 12. He had served as President in 1993.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Jeanne Abeyta, granddaughter, Tobi Renee Falzon and her husband Christopher and great grandson, Alexander Chase, grandson Jarrod Anthony Abeyta and his fiance, Jessica Moore and their daughter, Aurora Xaene, her brother Elmer R. Starr of Shafter, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jeanne's greatest enjoyment in life was her family. Before her illness her life was filled with traveling, enjoying special occasions and making enduring memories with them all.
A celebration of her Life will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd, on Wednesday April 30th at 2:00pm. Visitation will take place today April 29th at the chapel from 3-7 pm.
