bakersfield.com/obits Jeannine Anne Jones August 3, 1935 - July 20, 2012 Jeannine Anne Jones was born Jeannine Anne Peterson on August 3, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to Beatrice (Galati) and Arthur Peterson (Americanized from Petricoliano). A bright and energetic young lady with red hair, Jeannine graduated from The Immaculata High School (valedictorian) in 1952 at the age of 16 and began her travels. Although she never attended college, her natural ability to read and comprehend made her a mental giant, despite her diminutive stature (not quite 5 feet tall, 90 lbs). She traveled to Florida where she met, and on January 31, 1957, married SFC James Edwin Scott, a career Navy officer from Bakersfield, CA. As part of the Navy, they traveled the world. Their love resulted in four healthy sons: James Jr., Jon, Jordan, and Jarrett. James Sr.'s untimely death, while stationed in Guam in 1967, resulted in Jeannine and her children relocating to Bakersfield, where she had always been made welcome by her husband's family. She bought her one and only house on Cooney Way and made it a warm and inviting home. It was here in Bakersfield that she met and, on December 13, 1968, married Phillips Jones and later gave birth to her fifth and final child, Phillip. After working at the YMCA for several years, Jeannine sought and received training and in 1976 became a legal stenographer, working for the Kern County Adult Probation Department until her retirement in 1990 after 14 years. While working for the County, she first learned to operate an IBM "System 6" word processing computer: Experience that would pave the way to her being fearless on the internet decades later. Jeannine enjoyed reading, card games, movies and television, reading, travel, puns, reading, good conversation, reading, pro-football (Go Bears!), reading, cats, dragons, online trivia games and chat rooms, bingo, and reading. Nearly all those who met Jeannine were charmed by her graceousness and inviting manner. After her retirement, rarely could she be found without her mother who, until her passing in 2006, called her "Jeej." On the internet, she was widely known as RedMobius or, later, simply as Red. Jeannine suffered from emphysema, heart murmurs, essential tremor, and high blood pressure. Her death on July 20th, 2012 at the age of 76 was as unexpected as it was sudden. Jeannine is survived by her ex-husband, Phillips, who after their divoce became her best friend. By her sons Jon (Karin), Jordan (Shelli), Jarrett (Dawn), and Phillip (Tamara). By her brother, Michael (Louise). By her niece, Geneva (Richard) and nephew, Tom (Peggy). By her grandchildren: James (Desiree), Larissa, Cayla, Timothy (Krystal), Sandra, Jason, Jessica, Cassandra, Lisa, Annika, and Caleb. And by her great-grandchildren: Shawn, Meadow, Dylan, Lily-Anne, and Michael. And by the children of her heart (there were so very many)...and you all know who you are! Memorial services will be held at Greenlawn Chapel located at 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield on August 25th at 2 p.m. In the hereafter there may be dragons. Tread lightly and meddle not in the affairs of those dragons. For you are crunchy, and good with mustard!
