Jennie Segovia Ortiz Obituary
Jennie Segovia Ortiz May 2, 1923 - May 30, 2012 Jennie Segovia Ortiz, gentle and sweet spirit of Our Lord, was called home on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Born May 2, 1923 in Arvin she was a lifelong resident of Lamont. As a hard working and dedicated family person and a devout Christian she shared God's love and enriched the lives of many family and friends. For 89 years she was a unique gift to all who knew her and a source of strength and love to those in need. She was preceded in death by her husband and companion of more than fifty years Frank Ortiz, son Rudy Ortiz, and daughter Marie Boyce, grand daughter Kari Ortiz. Also preceding her were her parents Rosa Sanchez Segovia from Wasco and Herculano Segovia from Arvin, and her six siblings (Manuel Gonzalez, Mary Lujan, Rachel Arvizu, Nathaniel and James Segovia, and Grace Herrera). She is survived by five grandchildren and spouses (Sherri Punt, Gabriella Melanson, Nicole Ortiz Massey, Kellen Boyce and Krisa Boyce) and eight great grandchildren (Dylan Del Rio, Madelyn and Abigail Melanson, Ava Marie Ortega, Lanna Tinoco, Wayne, Harold and Frank Boyce). She helped to build and nurture a support network of extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close circles of comadres and compadres, friends and neighbors. She Linked generations of people from the Sanchez, Ortiz, Segovia, Velasco, Gonzalez and Arvizu families from Arvin, Lamont, Wasco, and Bakersfield. Over the years Jennie was generous in her labor within her church community at St Augustine, actively assisted other parishes in fund raising, and teamed with her friends and family to celebrate community events, holidays, and special gatherings. Unforgettable were huge family based gatherings at Hart Park, Bass Lake, Tahoe, Rosarito Beach, and Morro Bay and in one another's back yard. She often supported feeding the hungry, opened her home to loved ones in need, be friended the lonely and homeless. She inspired others by her example in living God's Love. We shall all miss your sweet smile, your protective intercession prayers, your generosity towards others, and your fun loving and adventurous attitude toward life.
