Jerold "Jerry" Vanderpool
April 3, 1941 - October 3, 2018
Jerry Vanderpool passed away at the age of 77 in Astoria, Oregon after a brief battle with cancer.
Jerry was born in Bakersfield, California on April 3, 1941. He attended East Bakersfield High School and graduated in 1959. Jerry also earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Redlands. Jerry served in the United States Air Force and was combat wounded in Vietnam. In 1973, Jerry joined the Bakersfield Police Department. Throughout his 25 year career with the BPD, Jerry performed many duties, eventually achieving the rank of Sergeant. After retiring from police work in 1997, Jerry moved to Cambria, California and became a 911 dispatcher and tour guide at Hearst Castle.
In 2005, Jerry relocated to Warrenton, Oregon and was a volunteer at the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, Oregon.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marlene of Warrenton, Oregon, Son Jerry and wife Angela of Boise, Idaho; Son Jan and wife Sioux of Bakersfield, California; Grandchildren Jerry and Eva of Boise, Idaho.

Yo Jerry - Philip " Tony" Kweder here! Just found your obit! Was hoping u still around . At this moment it is Sept 2,2023 . I´m 81. Wish u coulda seen this . Maybe somone will we both know - oh -my phone - (510) 225-5151. Anybody reads this and remembers me give me a call! EBHS CLASS OF `59- although actually I graduated from San Luis Obispo High ! Long story . Grew up pretty much in B-town tho . At the moment living in Berkeley, Ca . (Another long story) Married -couple of great kids !. Well I´m basically talking to myself - with any luck someone might see this and call-I hope . Rest well Jerry !!

No Police Officer ever wore a more shiny uniform than Jerry Vanderpool. His uniform, equipment and especially his motor were always "spit and polish." He had a heart and attitude that matched. We pray that Marlene and family have strong and stout hearts with Jerry's passing.
