Jewel Brown Wells, 89 years of age; beloved wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014 surrounded by family.
Brownie as she was affectionately known was born in Jackson County, TN to Ed & Cora Spurlock, she came to California with her Mother when she was 13 years of age to join her father who was already here working. They lived in a small town of Planada, Ca near Merced, CA. During this time her Beloved Brother Grover Jackson (Helen), was in the Conservation Job Corp. After attending LeGrand High School she worked in a Cannery near Merced when she spied a young man who had just returned from WWII. He was one of 4 boys born to King & Elsie Wells named Richard.
Brownie & Richard Wells were married on February 9, 1948 and moved to Bakersfield, Ca in 1954 to raise their family together.
A loving, devoted & Religious mother; Brownie made sure the family attended services at Central Church of Christ where she took an active part in teaching Sunday school and working at Yosemite Bible Camp, performing multiple tasks throughout the years at camp but the one remembered by most was the Camp cook.
Her passing left behind her Beloved husband of 66 years Richard, a daughter Mary, 4 sons; Bruce, Eddie (Becky), Alen (Cheryl) and Leon (Kasey), also including 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Mom's Internment will be held at The Bakersfield National Cemetery with a Graveside service at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. A visitation and viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at Greenlawn Mortuary SW 2739 Panama Lane.
