Jim D. Engel Obituary
Dad was born in Corn, Oklahoma to Elmer (Penny) & Velina Engel with one loving sister, Nancy Kliewer. A dust bowl surviving family, they loaded up the car and headed to Wasco. Dad was happy to trade the combines for sports. It was at Maple Elementary and Shafter High he excelled in track, baseball, wrestling and football many teams coached by his dad. He soon met and married Helen Virginia Kidd while playing ball at BC in Bakersfield. They started their family, Bible Study Fellowship and many great Hume Lake memories commenced.
Dad was 38 years sober in AA, positively impacting 100's, not shy about Christ as his Higher Power. Dad spent 40+ years in Education, helping start the Ruggenberg Center. He loved students and began teaching and coaching at East High followed West High, BC, and finally Wasco Prison Education Ministry. After his first wife passed, dad met a wonderful lady named Leasa Sukut at Valley Baptist Bible Study. Leasa, similar to Jim, has many Wasco and Shafter roots. Not only raised there but via Wasco Radio and Leo's TV, her father owned and operated. They together went on to share many years of exciting global travel, worship, backyard entertainment and laughter together. Most important, they shared this last journey by each-others side, smiling, singing, knowing exactly our beautiful destiny and his new body to come, and (that we get to see each-other again in Heaven).
Jim is survived by his wife Leasa Engel, his daughter Carol Blackburn (Terry) grandson Cory Blackburn(Ella), Trista Blackburn, Tiffany Molina(Mike) +5 children. His son Paul Engel(Cindy), grandsons Andrew, Caleb Engel & granddaughter, Hannah, Ryan Parkes & Jamie Montoya(Mason) +2 children. Jim is also survived by his sister, Nancy Kliewer (Jim) and family. Dad told me he wants you all to
"read Ephesians 2:8-9. I'll see you all again, if you simply believe in the name of Jesus and that he is the son of God!!"
There will be a celebration service of Jim's Life at Valley Baptist Church on November 9, 2015 at 10:00AM on Fruitvale Avenue the activities room.
