Jimmy D. Gibbons January 11, 1938 - December 22, 2012 Jimmy Gibbons, born in Coalinga and raised in Bakersfield, CA; son of James A. and Hazel Gibbons; brother of Earl and Jerry Gibbons; husband of Dorothy and father to Linda, Laura, and James, and their spouses Wes and Sara. Jim was a building contractor for 35 years. He got leukemia after completing the Ice House in 1984, and the Lord completely healed him! He began volunteering with Teen Challenge for the last 25 years of his life. He built all of the Teen Challenge buildings. He was granted the John Jacobson Christian Trust, which he used to purchase the Teen Challenge Men's Home in Shafter, and gave it to them. Jim influenced many lives for Christ, and cared deeply for each one of them. Jim gave his whole life to Christ to influence others. He built Calvary Bible Church 35 years ago, volunteering all his time for no charge. He was a truly devoted Christian husband, loving father, grand father, and great-grand father; giving time, energy, and compassion to each and every one of them. Jim graduated from North High School, then worked for Shell Oil Company for five years before building homes. He loved his wife, Dorothy, with all his heart, and they did everything together; working, golfing, horse packing, and vacationing at the beach. Jim and Dorothy's oldest daughter, Linda, died in 2010 and it broke Jimmy's heart. Jimmy had special relationships with his six grandchildren: Trisha, Jennifer, Jimmy, Billy, Stephanie, and Andrew, and their spouses Robbie, Joshy, Jayme, and Amber; and his fourteen great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Friday, December 28th, 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Bible Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to his greatest cause, Teen Challenge, in memory of Jimmy Gibbons. www.bakersfield.com/obits
