Joan Catherine Deabenderfer Obituary
Joan Catherine Deabenderfer 1930 - 2013 Surrounded by family members, Joan Catherine Deabenderfer, 83yrs. old, passed peacefully into Heaven on July 9th. Joan was born in the little town of Billerica, MA to Edward and Mary Anctil. Joan's family moved to El Cerrito, CA in 1942. She married her high school sweetheart, Judge Robert C. Deabenderfer, in 1948. Robert (Bob) Deabenderfer practiced law and then served as judge for many years in the central valley, with Joan at home as his lifelong partner and love of his life. Bob passed away in 2011. During 63 years of marriage, Joan and Bob raised a family of six children, and moved accordingly with each job opportunity . They lived for many years on a small ranch in Oakdale, CA before transferring to Kern County, and living in Taft, then Bakersfield, for the past three decades. Despite the tragedy of losing parents at a young age, and then losing a son in the Air Force, Joan never lost her faith in God. Joan was a devout Catholic and she kept her rosary nearby always. She was a lifetime member of YLI of St. Mary's Parish in Oakdale, CA. Joan was a beautiful, vivacious and energetic lady. She was a wonderful daughter, wife and mother. Besides being a loving and caring homemaker for her family, she canned fruit and vegetables, made delicious homemade bread and desserts, read books whenever possible, taught CCD classes at church, attended sports activities, sewed clothes for all of her children, and travelled extensively with her husband when he retired. She was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed her bridge partners in Bakersfield. In addition, Joan worked for a time as a legal secretary, and spent five years working for the Welfare Office in Taft. Joan and Bob were blessed with six children: Marianne Williams (Dennis) of Visalia, Susan DeSilva (Joseph), Ronald Deabenderfer, Samuel Deabenderfer, David Deabenderfer (deceased), and Richard Deabenderfer (Bebe). She leaves nine grandchildren, including Janet Starcher (Matthew), who lovingly attended her Nana Joan at her bedside, and also five great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary Murray, of Oklahoma and survived by her brother, Donald Anctil, of Chico, CA. God holds another Angel in his arms. A viewing will be held Monday, July 15th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. A rosary will be said Monday, July 15th at 6:30 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, followed on Thursday, July 18th with Interment in Oakdale, CA.
