Joan Doreen Cudmore was born November 10, 1923 in River KENT UK. Joan volunteered to join the HMS Royal Navy in 1943 in London. She was stationed in Sydney Australia from 1945-1946 on the HMS Aircraft Carrier Formidable.
In 1952 Joan met an American Soldier named Richard Dobbs at a dance on the base. They were married on that same base Sculthorpe RAF on May 1st 1954.
Joan and Richard returned to the US in early 1955. They welcomed their first child Glenn William in July 1955, John James followed in 1957, Eric Henry in 1959 and finally their long awaited daughter Deanna Sue in 1962.
Joan raised her young children, returning to the work force in 1970 to the Kern County Library. This being the perfect occupation as Joan had a voracious appetite for reading.
Joan and Richard attended St Luke's Episcopal Church meeting many friends, many English families that also got them involved in the Daughters of the British Empire. Many becoming lifelong friends.
Richard and Joan enjoyed their retirement traveling often to Carson Valley and England. Joan helped raise her grandchildren, as well as her weekly Bingo game, hitting the casino and reading.
Joan is preceded in death by her loving husband Richard, Sister Irene Wildman, son John, daughter Deanna and grandson Ryan.
Joan will be missed greatly by her family, friends, and relatives in the UK that love and cherish her. Joan is survived by her son Glenn wife Liz, son Eric wife Maria. Grandchildren Joshua Dobbs his wife Ashley and Great Granddaughter Paisley, Katie Dobbs and Hunter Dobbs. Her nieces Shelia and Jannette.

Services will be held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery Arvin CA at 9:15 sharp. If you would like to follow the funeral procession please be at Mission Family Mortuary, 531 California Ave, Bakersfield CA., at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016.
