Joan (Nolan) Mitchell May 11, 1923 - December 26, 2012 Joan (Nolan) Mitchell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on December 26, 2012. Joan was born in Texas to her parents, Ernest and Irene Nolan, on May 11, 1923 and moved to Taft, California in 1927. She had a brother, Kenneth and a sister, Ruth. Joan Nolan and Robert J. Mitchell were married on July 23, 1940 at Taft Assembly of God Church. They lived in Bakersfield from that date until her husband's death in 2010, where she continued to live until her final days. Joan is survived by her two sons, Steven Mitchell and wife Cindy, and Jay Mitchell and wife Toni; grandchildren, Tara, Jason, Jessica, and Landon; great grandson, Bronson; sister-in-law, Grace Shaffer; and nephew, Doug Shaffer. Joan was a faithful member of First Assembly of God in Bakersfield and taught Sunday School for 43 years. She was also active in Women's Ministries and held offices in Business Women's Missionary League. Visitation will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Monday, December 31, 2012 from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Graveside services for family and friends will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Assembly of God Blue Chapel at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Missions Department of First Assembly of God, or to a .
