Joan Schorr

03/12/1931 - 03/26/2015 Obituary
Joan Schorr, passed away at the age of 84 on March 26th, 2015 at Sutter Roseville Medical Center due to complications resulting from respiratory failure.
Joan was born on March 12, 1931 in Seattle, Washington to Arthur and Patricia Parker. Joan's family settled in Bakersfield, California, which for the majority of her life she called home. In her later years, she moved to Northern California to be closer to her sons. Joan was a graduate of East Bakersfield High School, Class of 1949 and also, a graduate of Bakersfield College having attained her Associates Degree in 1989. Joan took on many jobs during her career, but she eventually retired from the Kern County Assessor's Office where she worked as a Title Clerk. However, if you asked what her most important job was in her life, she would have said mother to her children. Joan loved to sew having made most of her own clothes. If she made a particular piece for someone, she would affix a label which said simply "Lovingly made by Joan". You could always count on Joan having cookies in the cookie jar. Joan was a bit of a handyperson and when repairs were needed around the house, she generally did them on her own. Joan loved nature and the majority of family vacations were spent camping. A lifelong, devout Catholic, Joan found God's presence in nature.
Joan was preceded by her parents, Arthur and Patricia, her younger sister Barbara Schmidt of Lompoc, CA, her younger brother James Tipton of Fresno, CA, and her youngest son, Joseph Schorr of Fresno. Joan is survived by her three sons, Anthony Schorr of Martinez, CA, Peter Schorr of Auburn, CA and Robert Schorr of New York, NY, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 27th, 2015, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bakersfield, California. The rosary will be said at 9:30 and mass will follow at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be offered to Catholic Charities USA.
