Joanne Lois Kimbrel-Tolliver-Clinton Obituary
Joanne Lois Kimbrel-Tolliver-Clinton February 14, 1941 - July 1, 2013 Joanne was born in Baltimore, Maryland and died in Porterville, California. She resided most of her life in Bakersfield, California. She was preceded in death by father Olin Kenneth Kimbrel, mother Lois Mae Kimbrel and husband Roy Clinton. Survived by daughter and son-in-law Adenna "Dee Dee" & Gayle Garretson, Porterville, CA; daughter & son-in-law Christine & Carl Pole, Fallon, NV; and son and daughter-in-law Dennis & Adrianne Tolliver, Bakersfield, CA. Grandchildren - Stacey Johnson, Stephen Garretson, Kimberley Garretson, Krista Sibayan, Nicholas Mavrides, Kyle Mavrides, Craig Tolliver & Alyssa Tolliver and eight great grandchildren. She married the late Murle Tolliver on February 5, 1959 and together they had three children Dee Dee, Chris and Dennis, who kept mom busy and proved to be quite a handful on a daily basis since all three were born within 30 months of each other. She was a kind-hearted friend who would laugh often at herself and life's events and was willing to help others she came in contact with. She had unconventional ways of living life, often going her own way and deviating from the crowd. She was fun to be around in social gatherings and people found her approachable and easy to visit with. She never cared what others thought and lived life in her 'feather-head' style often laughing at herself and with others about everyday life and the predicaments she would find herself in. Despite her illness, toward the end of her life, she would still enjoy a glass of wine which she sipped through a straw and insisted the straw be saved for future use even though there was a Costco-sized box of straws in the pantry. Mom grew up in a time where being wasteful was frowned upon and she would freely give instruction on the proper way to save leftover meals, only to abandon those requests at the mention of a cheeseburger or pizza the next evening while tuning in to the Game Show Network. Special thanks to Dee Dee, Adrianne & Alyssa for making mom's last few months as comfortable and enjoyable as could be while she dealt with her illness. And also to Gayle for easing her conscience and praying with mom until the end. Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, River Blvd. at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013.
