Joe B. Dominguez Obituary
Joe was born to Benjamin P. Dominguez and Celia C. Dominguez on July 18, 1951 in Bakersfield, California. He passed away peacefully at his home on July 18, 2015.
Joe lived his entire life in Bakersfield. He graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1969. He served his country in the United States Army for three years, and was sent to Vietnam from 1971-72. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, Joe continued government service when he began working for the Social Security Administration. He happily retired in 2006 after 35 years of loyal government service.
After his retirement, he continued serving his lifelong parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He was a fixture at 10 am Mass every Sunday.
Joe spent countless hours volunteering with the church. He spent many years as a catechism teacher teaching the faith to the parish children. He also spent many years as the head of the men's club, and then later as a charter member of the OLG Knights of Columbus as treasurer. He was also a board member for St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Charities in Bakersfield, Ca. One of Joe's favorite activities was preparing his world famous menudo for family and friends. It was always a treat when he would prepare some to share with family and friends. He enjoyed cooking, family get-togethers, and barbeques. He also enjoyed watching his younger siblings and then his nieces and nephews many sporting events and school activities. Joe was always in the stands or bleachers cheering.
He is preceded in death by his mother Celia Dominguez, and his parents Benjamin and Mary A Dominguez.
He is survived by his siblings Antonio (Tony) Dominguez his wife Cindy and their children Lauren and Mark; Victoria (Vicky) Erickson her husband Kirk and their children Tracy, Teresa, Jason, and Mary Grace; Tom Dominguez and his wife April and their children Isabella, Ava, and Benjamin; Michael Dominguez and his wife Misty and their children Matthew, Eric, and Alexander; and his God parents Charmaine and Jimmy Sanchez
He was "Nino Joe" to Tracy Erickson, Mark Dominguez, Matthew Dominguez, and Alexander Dominguez. There was always a friendly argument between his God-children as to whose Nino he really was. He would always smile and laugh as these arguments continued between his God-children at the family get-togethers.
