Joe Carel Williams (85) of Bakersfield, CA died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at his home with his devoted wife of 25 years Esla Jean by his side.
Joe was born May 17, 1929 in Cherokee, Alabama. He enlisted in both the United States Army and the Air Force Air National Guard. He served his country in both World War II and the Korean conflict as an artilleryman earning the rank of Sergeant First Class. Joe was a proud patriot who was honored to be a participant in Honor Flight Kern County's trip to Washington D.C. in November 2013. He also was thrilled to be recognized for his service in Bakersfield's Veterans Day Parade that same year. Joe was a long time resident of Bakersfield. He enjoyed being an active member of the Bear Mountain Flyers model airplane club and having monthly lunch with Sons in retirement following his retirement from the California Highway Patrol as a widely respected Motor Carrier Specialist in 1995.
Joe is survived by his wife Esla Jean of Bakersfield; brother Rayburn (Hilda) of Corinth, MS; sons Joel (Patty) of Alta Loma, CA and Jim (Patti) of Ukiah, CA; and granddaughters Jenna Hurley Williams of Alta Loma, CA, Erica Ehmann of El Cerrito, CA, and Andrea Williams of Tumwater, WA.
Services will be held on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 1:15 p.m. at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, Arvin.
