JOHN ALOYSIUS MALLEY Obituary
John Malley of Palm Desert, CA died on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at home surrounded by loved ones. He was 88. John was born on April 13, 1928, to Joseph and Eva Malley in the small town of Nashwauk, MN, in the Iron Range around Lake Superior. The third child of five, he attended Nashwauk Grade and Elementary School, Hibbing Junior College and Marquette University.

Soft spoken with an astute business mind, "Doc Malley" began his visionary journey as a teen. Working on a track gang in the iron ore mines, he made the decision to create a better life. After a brief stint in the Navy with his GI bill in hand, he graduated from Marquette Medical School in Milwaukee, WI in 1955 and completed his residency at LA County General in California. Specializing in Urologic Surgery at Pomona Valley Hospital, Pomona, CA, he built a five-man surgical team known nationwide for its' innovative procedures.

Doc Malley's interest in agriculture began in the early sixties starting with the purchase of farmland. His desire to do things better led to the founding of Treehouse Farms, Inc. in 1977, a pioneering, vertically integrated almond company. This endeavor has engaged and sustained thousands of individuals and businesses in the San Joaquin Valley for over 50 years and continues today as Malley Farms, Inc., a successful diversified agricultural production company.

Life is a tapestry of events and Doc Malley weaved an extraordinary pattern of passion, including excellence and innovation in medicine and farming; and a keen observation and love of all people, especially his family, friends, employees and associates. His modesty allowed others to shine inspiring mutual admiration and loyalty. He will be greatly missed.

John was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Gene; and by his parents, Joseph and Eva.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his children, Cynthia, Scott, Robin, and Jennifer; his stepchildren, Teri, Cheryl, and Nanci; twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and by his siblings, Alan and Theresa.

A "Celebration of Doc Malley's Life" will be held for his family, friends, colleagues and all those he touched at The Padre Hotel in Bakersfield, Saturday, November 19, 2016. Doors open at 4pm. A tribute will begin at 6pm.
