Obituary Condolences

Heaven has a new bass. After a lifetime of singing here on earth, John Friauf has joined the choir in heaven.
John was born in Pampa, Texas to George and Lucille Friauf. He was an Eagle Scout. He attended Yale University and earned a Bachelor Degree of Engineering and Master Degree of Industrial Administration.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1954 to 1957. He worked in a variety of manufacturing management positions in several states, Singapore and England. He also taught management courses and seminars as an adjunct professor in New York State.
The job he loved the most was VP of Operations at the J.M. Murray Center in Cortland, NY. This facility provided training and work for people with disabilities. John said it was the most challenging and fulfilling job he ever had. He believed God directed him to the Murray Center even though he said the path there was long and winding!
John was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church wherever he lived. He was a third generation Ruling Elder in the Church. Of course he also sang in the choir at every church he attended! Music was an important part of his life. He played the cornet as a teen in the high school band and was Drum Major his senior year, then sang in choirs from New York to California. He sang in the First Presbyterian Church Choir until he died. He also sang in Bakersfield Master Chorale through the 2014 season.
In 1942, John had his first kiss. The girl was schoolmate Beverly Brandt. In 1998, John met Beverly again at their 50th class reunion in Pampa, Texas. In 1999, he moved from Norwich, NY to Bakersfield to marry Beverly. Their wedding invitation read, we shared our first kiss and we'll share our last kiss. Beverly and John moved to Rosewood in 2007. She passed away in 2009. They had ten wonderful years together. John often said, we are still married; we are just in different time zones right now.
Always busy, John also volunteered at Rosewood. He served on the Rosewood Resident Council holding positions as Treasurer and President. He also served as Chairman of the Rosewood Foundation Committee.
The Family would like to thank the wonderful staff on the 4th floor at Memorial Hospital, as well as Dr. Robert Laughlin. Their kind understanding helped ease John from this life to the next.
John is survived by his three children, Katherine Hurd, Peggy Friauf and John Friauf Jr. (Janet), one grandson, Jamison Friauf, two step daughters, Connie Boczarski and Gina Hayden and step son Todd Ross, many step-grandchildren and great-grand children.
A memorial service will be held December 1st at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1705 17th Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to: The Rosewood Foundation, 1301 New Stine Road, Bakersfield, CA 93309. For condolences, please visit: www.greenlawnm-c.com
