John Douglass 1921 - 2012 John was born to Ben and Ethel Douglass December 9, 1921 in West Newton, Pennsylvania. He spent his youth in Herminie and West Newton and worked summers on his Uncle's farm. In June, 1941 He married Annetta Naylor. As an adult he farmed, worked as a mechanic and finally as a pipe fitter in the steel mill. He came to California in 1957 and retired from Kaiser Steel in Fontana. He and Nettie moved to Bakersfield, California to be near their daughter and grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren (who called him Pappy) and was pleased to be able to see one of his great, great grandchildren in August of this year. John also enjoyed bowling, country music and karaoke at Greenacres Sr. Center. John was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Annetta and nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by his second wife, Phyllis, two daughters Beverly(Larry) Nichols of Bakersfield and Darla (Jim)Marange of Pace, Florida 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren in Florida, Louisiana,Oregon, and New Hampshire. He is also survived by Phyllis' children Jean (David) Frank and Shirley Held, 1 step grandaughter and 3 step great grandchildren. John was cared for in the last 18 months by Kim, Renee, Tanya, Madalyn and the rest of the wonderful people at Optimal Hospice and eventually by the staff at Golden Living Center in Shafter. Services will be at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church, 4600 Stockdale Hwy. on Tuesday, October 9th and graveside services will be held at Montecito Memorial Park in Loma Linda, California, Wednesday, October 10th, at 11:00am. There will be time for viewing from 1:00 to 5:00pm Monday, October 8th, at Mission Family Mortuary, 531 California Avenue. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Optimal Hospice or the . www.bakersfield.com/obits
