John E. Ross Obituary
John was born on April 15, 1947 to Elwyn and Lorraine Ross in Bakersfield, CA where he lived his entire life. He went to be with the Lord on February 20th, 2015 after a short battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends. He graduated from BHS in 1965 and attended Bakersfield College where he received his AA degree in Marketing.
He worked for the Bakersfield Californian for 11 years as Classified and National Ad Managers, worked in Real Estate and owned an Industrial Coating business and then owned a mortgage company with his wife. He was currently employed as a salesman for MetalTek and worked for his life long friend Gary Duncan.
Through Johns life he belonged to the boat club, the Elks Club and several other organizations. He grew up playing golf with his father and sister and continued through his lifetime. He and his wife belonged to Sundale Country Club at one time where they met several friends and became best friends with Dennis and Linda Beason. The 4 of them enjoyed many trips to Lake McClure and other lakes on John and Jeanne's boat. He also enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren fishing and golfing.
John was a very sociable person and never met a stranger. He enjoyed hosting parties for family and friends and put on many Cornhole tournaments with his wife and friends Dennis and Linda Beason to raise money for ALS. He made over 200 sets of cornhole boards with his son which he sold all over the country. He enjoyed building things out of wood and was a perfectionist at any thing he did. He enjoyed life and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandpa, papa and friend.
John was preceded in death by his father Elwyn Ross and sister Sharyn Woods. He is survived by his mother, Lorraine Ross of Bakersfield, wife, Jeanne Ross, children Tricia(Jimmy) Beavers, Angela(David) Anderson, and Jason(Skye) Grass, grandchildren, Kathy Beavers(Damien Hamilton), Mitchell(Gabbye) Beavers, Justin Beavers(Aimee Barker), Kaden and Kendall Grass, great grandchildren, Jack Hamilton, Rylee Beavers, Annabelle Beavers and Devin Patire, and "brothers of the heart", Dennis Beason, Bill Doane and Steve Doane, and nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Their will be a "Celebration of Life" at St. John's Lutheran Church, 4500 Buena Vista Road, Bakersfield, CA 93311 on March 7th at 2:00 pm.
